Morocco

Morocco exudes African mystique, with Medina alleyways leading to souqs and riads, camels traversing the dunes of the Sahara and nomadic tribes remaining closely connected to the environment.  What you will remember the most in Morocco, however, is the lyrical landscapes that carpet this sublime slice of North Africa like the richly coloured and patterned artwork decorating the ancient markets of Fes & Marrakesh.

There is a code of conduct for visiting temples.  It is important to act and dress with respect when visiting religious sites.  Women may accept a gift from a monk but must be careful never to touch him.  Shorts and tank tops are not appropriate.  Hats must be taken off when entering the grounds.   Shoes must be taken off before going into the temples.  When sitting in front of Buddha, sit with feet to the side.  Bow in the presence of elderly monks.  Giving a small monetary donation will be greatly appreciated.  Never point your finger or soles of your feet towards a monk or a Buddha figure.

Travel Health: it is especially important that you visit your travel physician prior to this trip as parts of Bhutan are at altitude.  You may need medication to prevent altitude sickness.

The Blue Lagoon – Iceland

The Blue Lagoon is a magical mystical geothermal pool in Iceland that is surrounded by soft green moss and black volcanic rocks as far as the eye can see.  It is the perfect place to float your stress away in the always perfect 38 degree C water.  Keep your travel companions close because it is easy to lose each other through the steam from the hot springs and the white masks that are seen on every visitor who indulges in their signature Silica mud masks.

The Blue Lagoon is a quick 20 minute drive from the Keflavik airport and 40 minute drive to the centre of Reykjavik.  Taxis or shuttles can be arranged for transport.  Pre-bookings for the Blue Lagoon are required and can be purchased online.

If you are looking for accommodations, The Blue Lagoon recently added two options: Silica Hotel and Retreat Hotel.  The Silica Hotel is a comfortable option with key features including premium entrance to the Blue Lagoon, complimentary breakfast, and entrance to the Silica Lagoon (private lagoon for hotel guests only).  The Retreat Hotel offers exclusive suites with key features that include access to the Retreat Spa, Blue Lagoon, Retreat Lagoon, Blue Lagoon Ritual, A la carte Breakfast, Group Yoga Sessions, and Guided Group Hikes.

A visit to Iceland and the Blue Lagoon is worthwhile and made easy, especially when flying with Iceland Air that allows you to do a free stopover in Reykjavik to explore.  It is definitely worth considering this option when traveling from North America to the UK or Europe.  Click here to learn more about Iceland.
